Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official commented the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
